The Apprenticeship Levy Study: NHS Trusts

In partnership with research specialists, trendence UK, Health Education England and the Education Skills Funding Agency, BPP recently surveyed NHS Trusts on their apprenticeship strategies.

The report, which features responses from 175 NHS trusts in the UK, provides market leading insight on how many of the trusts are planning to deal with the Apprenticeship Levy.

More than two-thirds of all NHS trusts in England responded to the survey, which underlines the weight behind the research and responses are therefore indicative of most modern-day trusts.

The main insights from NHS trusts highlights:

  • Around half of all trusts will have an annual levy spend between £1-3 million, with most planning to use it
  • Trusts plan to spend most of their levy funds on existing employees, rather than external talent
  • And there is an appetite for nursing degree apprenticeships with 85% of trusts looking to offer them

This report will give NHS employers an opportunity to consider their approach to the levy, in light of feedback and new thinking from the trusts we surveyed.
